I am moved by the beauty of the fabric when it sways in the wind outside or when the sun hits it and the cloth shines through the light. I preferred to make banners and kites, which are exposed to the sun and wind outside.
However, when I was a student, a teacher asked me, ‘This work will fade, won't it? Would you still put it out there?’ I was told at a review meeting.
Those words have stuck with me for a long time. I wondered if I had no choice but to lock myself up in a dark room where no wind or sunlight could reach it, in order to keep the work unchanged.
I believe that there should also be a work of art that can affirm the changes caused by the outside environment.

私は、外の風に吹かれてて布が揺れたり、陽に当たって布が光に透けたりする時、綺麗だなあと感動します。
私はのぼり旗や、凧のように、外の陽に晒され、風に当たるものを好んで作っていました。しかし、「この作品は退色してしまうんでしょう？それでも外に出すの？」と、学生の頃に作品の合評会で言われたことがありました。
私は、その言葉がずっと心に引っかかり、作品を変化させないために、風も日光も届かない暗い部屋に閉じ込めておくしかないのか、と悩みました。
そういった外の環境による変化も肯定できるような、作品もあるはずだと思っています。
